I installed Ubuntu on a USB drive and it over wrote Master Boot Record on my
Vista hard drive. Now I cannot boot my laptop without USB drive being
connected to the laptop. I found the instructions on how to use the
Bootrec.exe tool, but that requires Windows Vista installation DVD. Vista was
installed from laptop's hard drive when it was started for the first time. So
I have no installation disc. How can I fix this?

You'll have to perform a Windows Vista recovery
as recommended by the manufacturer of your laptop.
The instructions are outlined in the User's Guide
that came with your laptop or posted on the manufacturer's
support web site.
