First Scandisk then defrag overnight

Is there a way that I can my XP standalone PC (1 Hard drive) to first
CheckDisk then defrag overnight without any user intervention?
At the moment, I can get it to Checkdisk but then we get to the login screen
which waits for a signature before it will do anything else so I don't know
if I can then get it to Defrag automatically.

This looks really promising. I'll work through it and let you know what
happens.

Chkdsk isn't a problem because that starts before you get to the logon
screen. All I need to do is run that before I go to bed by 2clicking my
little homemade batch file which just contains the line
chkdsk c: /f /r
I tell it to run next time the PC starts and then Restart the PC.

But when ChkDsk has finished, windows then starts and the login screen
appears demanding a password before it starts. So I never get to Scandisk.

Download XP Powertools from Microsoft. There is an option to allow you input
your password then windows will start each time without asking for the
password.

Evi;

Scandisk does not exist on XP.
It is called Error Checking (chkdsk.exe)

Thanks Everyone. This sounds good.

Wesley, you've probably guessed that I was a long-time user of Win95 and 98
and I still sometimes get the names mixed up.

I think everyone assumes people are refering to chkdsk NOT scandisk with XP.
