Hello! I just got the Roxio CD Creator 8 because my Roxio CD Creator 5 was
not supported by Dell anymore, or so Roxio told me. Anyway, the same thing
is happening with the new version that was happening when I had the old
version: namely, I can not make any CD's anymore. This has not been a
problem since owning the computer for almost 3 years. Roxio informed me that
I need a firmware update. Does this make sense, and if so, how do I get it
or download it? Does this cost me anything? For something I have had for
free, it has now cost me for a new product that I I do not think was
necessary in acquiring. Anyway, let me know Please! I would like to start
making CD's again...soon.

A firmware update makes good sense. You get it from the website of the manufacturer of your drive. The update is free.

It may not even be supported any more, especially if it is the original Dell
CD-RW. A very good DVD-+RW double layer is just under 100 US dollars now.

I did not want to spend any money but if you are sure this is the only way to
NOW make CD's, where do i go to get this, what web site ?

I did not want to spend any money since i got the original with my computer
when I first bought it, but if you think this is the ONLY way to get me to
make CD's again, where do I go to get this item? what exactly is it called?
etc

Type in the model of your cd drive in the search field and if their is a
firmware update for it it will show you.

To find your model # open my computer and right click your cd drive and
select properties, it will be listed under the hardware tab.

Your answer is here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/EN-US/

You need to remove the Upper and Lower filter entries in your registry and
reboot.
All typical warnings about editing your registry apply. Make sure you read
the entire article and follow the instructions very carefully. I am not
responsible if you screw it up.

Once you make the change and reboot, your Drive will function normally.
