Have the following:
1. HP laptop with XP SP1, small firewire port connector
2. Self-built PC with XP SP2, Firewire card with the larger version
firewire connectors with working Firewire connected hard drive.

Would like to:
1. Network the two via firewire.
2. Share the firewire connected drive with the laptop.

Is this doable?

Can any imaging software find such a networked hard drive for both saving
and ***restoring*** for the laptop?

Saw no replies.

Booted the XP restoration CD on the HP notebook, and it did its trick.
Installed SP2. Cleaned up a bunch of software that I didn't want, and its
remnants.

Found the external firewire only box has two ports. Both the PC and the
notebook can see the firewire drive and each other via this connection. The
PC did have an initial connection problem, solution was the default enabling
of Lmhosts lookup on the PC's network connection for firewire. Disabling
that, and it worked fine. Managed to share some drives with each other over
the firewire network.

Two more questions.

How will the firewire drive react when both the PC and the notebook attempt
access for large files reads and/or writes?

Can the windows firewall be configured to hide the firewire connected
devices while connected to the internet? Its a TCP/IP network. Using
dialup. If not, I have ZA Pro to help out.
