Firewire Device not Recognized

Hi all...

I have tried to connect my Panasonic GS500 thru the firewire port on my
machine. My computer recognizes the host controller, but does not detect the
camera. Any ideas?
 
Just checking, did you turn the camera on to the "VCR" playback mode after
connecting the cable to the camera?
 
Sure did - still nothing...
