With SP-2 Windows found ZA and did no recommend using their firewall.
ZA does more and I guess MS is acknowledging it. BTW, I can't see any
reason to run the Window's firewall if you have ZA.
You don't HAVE to run both but you can run both at the same time if you wish
so that, for example, if ZAP was to be shut down by you, your XP firewall
would still be running.
Depends which ZA you are using but the latest ZAP appears to turn OFF the
Windows XPSP2 firewall while leaving it marked as ON if you click in Network
Connections on your connection icon. It is actually off with the latest one.
You have to go turn it ON manually if you want it on at the same time.

One good reason - I have my settings in ZAP so tight that if I type in an
URL incorrectly and end up at some place I don't want to be, nothing harmful
can run on my computer. Unfortunately that means either editing a web site
you WANT to work or turning off ZAP when you go there. If you turn the
latest ZAP off, you have NO firewall running. If you want ZAP and also some
protection when it is off, each time you reboot your computer and connect to
Internet, you have to manually turn the firewall ON because the default for
XPSP2 firewall is OFF when using ZAP even though in Network connections it
shows it as ON.
