I have zone alarm and programs titled install.exe and optimize.exe keeps
trying to get in. Are these microsoft programs that should be allowed?
No. And your ZoneAlarm did its main job well.
Optimize.exe is a Trojan (or at least advertizing spyware) program --
there are 42 of such programs, which use this name, mentioned today at
Symantec site: you can go to
http://www.symantec.com/search/ and make a
search for this name.
You can find there also about 35 Trojans and advertizing programs which
use "install.exe" name. And even taking into account that "install.exe"
is more common name -- if you are not installing any program this time,
then there is nothing to do in Internet to any program with this name
(and even if you're installing anything -- as a ruler, the "reputable"
installation programs might not try to access Internet while
installation without their explicit query and your evident positive
answer).
