I'm currently using WinXP HE, NAV, and ZA Pro. I want to get trend Micro's
PC-Cillin Internet Security 2005, but I'm not sure if I should uninstall ZA
because PC-Cillin comes with a firewall. Should I stay with ZA or install
PC-Cillin's?

Thanks a lot.

Hi ... If you are really sure that you are going to purchase "PC_Cillin "???
Then the answer to your question would be to uninstall zone alarm pro,
beside ZA isn't that good of a firewall , Its okay if you don't have
anything else ... Having 2 firewall running can cause more problems and
again beside that you wouldn't get add security with 2 ... So yes remove
Zone Alarm

This is the first time I ever heard someone say ZA isn't
that good of a firewall. I am curious as to why you are
making that statement.

BlackIce Defender I would never use because
astalavista.box.sk had posted a security hole in one of
their earlier versions..

As for symantec's it's really not too good either..I have
a friend who swore by it and it's database file got
corrupted by malware altering the settings.

Only other one I tried was Mcafee's and I did like it, but
I still swear by Zone Alarm Pro.

hi , i agree with RR that ZAP isn't that great from what
i read in some of those hacker sites . want prove just
visit some of them hacker sites and mention that you have
ZAP , also ask them how secure your computer is from
being hacked , I bet someone would be able to hack your
computer within a few minuts

Hi . I had ZAP but I had to uninstall because I have a spyblocker program
that I really like and with ZAP it wasn't working correctly . So I went to
ZA forum site and see whether I could result my problem , Well to keep it
short ZA tech guys couldn't result my problem , they more or less said that
not all programs can work together with every programs , meaning I was stuck
with either having to put up with it or work around it . So then I try other
forum sites to see whether anyone could help and this is when I notice
people given ZAP negative input about it . I was surprise by it and when it
was my time to renew I didn't . I was advise to try sygate , Outpost and
blackice . So I went with sygate pro and I can say that I am very happy with
this firewall , no problems with other programs, This was the main reason as
to why I switched . Now I never did find out whether if ZAP is all that , or
did I even get my problem fixed with spyblocker and ZAP. If you really want
to find out how good it is ??? I'm pretty sure you can look to other forum
sites like I did and get feed back on how good it really is , I know I wasn't
impress . Now I am not saying to stop using ZA but I know when its time to
renew your sub. I would check to see what is or isn't good , just my
opinion ." To each, to them self " .

Is that the 3 year old hacker sites or the 7 year old hacker sites? :)

For most SOHO users there isn't much better than ZAP.
And ZA free is about a cheap as it gets.
I would say it is the most widely used firewall ever (except for XP SP2
users that don't download a lastest version and use the WFW. Possible
troubles in the future but still a gazillion percent safer computing than
without one.)

SJ

Not true, the problems are not understanding what a firewall is doing (or
blocking) vs. what your intentions are concerning access from and to you
network connection.

WFW only stops unsolicited input, but any crud on your computer can then go
out (and get a response back) just like any program, even the programs you
don't want to be connecting to the net.

The latest version of ZAP is quite easy to understand and does a lot of
things automatically. The user just needs to know what to say YES and NO to
as far as access. (The basics are covered.)

SJ

When?

There have been at least 3 version updates to ZAP since XP SP2.
I would suspect the spyblocker type programs as being coded incorrectly as
they are relative new and have been around before XP SP2. Spywareblocker has
a new release 7, Adware SE Pro is new. Maybe other will follow?

SJ

Hey SlowJet ... I know exactually what is does and doesn't and ZAP will not
work with my spyblocker , So please don't try to tell me something that you
are not sure of because i am sure it doesn't ... Also why couldn't there
tech guys solve the problem ?? I did everything they suggested , Only after
many tries of doing this and that did they finally started to brush me off
because they couldn't figure it out as to why this program wouldn't work

Hey guys,
Thanks to all of you. I thought about it, and decided to just stay with NAV
and ZA :p
And yes, I agree that ZA Pro is pretty good. So, if it's been good to me,
then why change it!? :p

Thanks again!

P.S.: I use Outlook Express to read newsgroups and post, but I noticed that
my post didn't show in OE. Does anyone know why? My OE version is
6.00.2800.1123. This is the first time it happens, so now I'm posting from
the website. TIA.

Another thing I just went to login to Zone Alarm forum and its strange as to
why they went to remove all my posts .... Hmmmm . It does show that i am
registre and when i did register , Also how many time that i did log in ...
I have pasted onto note pad and ONLY remove my email address and user name
.... Yes i know i could of made this up but i didn't

I didn't say it wouldn't. I said I suspect the newer spyware type programs,
rather than ZAP that has been updated very regularly, would be the
conflicting code. Getting brushed off by tech support phone guys is part of
their job (As in I don't get paid enough to put up with piss poor
documentation. I'll wait for another 10,000 calls just like it and maybe the
5,000 page report out of the defect tracking system will get spotting by
manager with performace stock options.) ;)

I would suggest that users get another spyware blocker if there is trouble
and weed out the ones that aren't coded correctly or keeping the pace. It's
much easier to try those out than replace the firewall looking for one to
match a questionable program.

SJ

No I don't think so this spyblocker is probably one of the best ones out
there .... As to what I would suggest is don't use Zone Alarm and use a
firewall that works like Sygate or Outpost ... My spyblocker program has no
problems with Sygate ... Now I didn't say it was PHONE tech support guys , I
said I when and register with Zone Alarm Forum site and Zone Alarm tech
guys in the forum site couldn't fix the problem ...

PS: Why would they remove all my post too ??? What are they a scare of
people viewing my post and noticing that ZA isn't that good ??? ...
Look I don't want to be writing back and forth about this program which i
will never again use , I am very happy with Sygate and thats probably where
I will stay with or I might try out Outpost because I heard they are just as
good as Sygate , but one think i know for sure I will never again use Zone
Alarm .... So I will leave it at that thank you very much ....
