Greetings Ladi,

What type of software firewall are you using? The built-in Windows one can't stop Messenger
from signing as it only blocks incoming connections.

Hi,

On the Symantec (assuming Norton) firewall, all you need to do is right-click the Norton icon
in the notification area (by the clock) and choose Norton Internet Security/Firewall
(something similar, I'm afraid it's different in every version). If you're unsure what icon
it is, just hover over each and they'll identify themselves.

Then choose Status & Settings, choose Personal Firewall and then choose the Configure button.
Then choose the Programs or Allowed Programs list/tab, and under the list of programs (in
2006 this is under 'Manual Program Control') look for any "Messenger" (Windows Messenger, MSN
Messenger, etc.) options, choose each and then choose Remove.

Then click the Add button, go to the Program Files (usually on C:) folder, then MSN Messenger
and double-click msnsmgr.exe. It'll then ask you which rights you wish to give Messenger,
choose "Permit" or "Permit All".

Then try again.

Hi,

Here are some other suggestions for you to try:
1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
2. You want to uninstall any software firewall you're using to see if it's causing the
problem. After you're confirmed the firewall was at fault by uninstalling it, you can
reinstall it to try and make it work.
3. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check
for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
4. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK
and do the same for the following:
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
