i was told by sbc that i'm not able to view web pages because 9 times
out of 10, i have a firewall running. to my knowledge, i dont have a
firewall. i'm not sure where to go to see if i have a firewall or not.

You need a firewall running at all times.
XP has a good incoming firewall built in, but you will need a 3rd party
firewall solution if you want an outgoing firewall.

Hello,

Well, chances are that you have firewall running if you experience
difficulties in loading web pages because a firewall is running. A good way
to check this is use Windows Security Center, provided you have service pack
2. You can access this by Start > Control Panel > Security center. Once
here, click on the area that says 'Firewall' and it should say if your
firewall is on. If it says anything other than Windows Firewall than you
have an 3rd party firewall.

You can also go to http://www.grc.com/default.htm, scroll down and select
'shields up' and test your ports. While testing, if you have a firewall it
should pop up telling you something is trying to access ports on your
computer. So this is also another way to know if you have a firewall or not.
