Firewall?

Is there a firewall in Windows 2000 Prof. that can be turned off or disabled?
I have a user that connects to our network remotely (via VPN). Everything
was working fine until she downloaded windows updates onto her machine. She
has a good internet and VPN client connection, so why can't her machine
communicate with our network?

Any advice would be great. Thanks.
