With a firewall, and using WS_FTP, which do I "allow" past the Firewall:
WS_FTP or FrontPage? (or both?).

If this is important, my Tools > Internet Options > Advanced shows that "Use
Passive FTP" is checked. I didn't check that, so *assume* the McAfee
Firewall did that during its installation. Windows XP Pro SP2, FrontPage
2000, WS_FTP is latest for the Home edition.

They are seperate applications, so if you wish to use both, they will have to
be allowed by your firewall to access the server.

I personally have my firewall set to "Always Ask" before any application
accesses the internet

If you are using FP extensions, FTP'ing may well crash 'em. Publish thru FP using http.

Thanks, MikeR, but I publish this site to a UNIX server and they have
designated ftp only.

But now I get what JDR means about "if you use both."

My other website does use FP extensions and I do use a different server and
there, I have always used "Publish."
