Failed port for WS_FTP transfer

I do a web site for an organization which must be done via WS_FTP. It has
always been simple to WS_FTP it back to FrontPage on my computer if I need
to, though this evening I want to transfer files back to my external drive
F:.

This is an old program, but it lets me navigate back to my system's F: drive
where I have a clean backup folder. When I'm ready to transfer, I get the
message:
Port 69,200,39,160,4,125
!Failed "port"

Is this a common firewall problem? I have FrontPage on the Firewall's
filter, so have to give permission each time. What if I take it off filter
and give it full permission to go to the internet? Or is it WS-FTP that
doesn't allow from the live site back to my computer? I have not checked
"Use a Firewall" in WS_FTP's setup.

Are you allowing WS-FTP to access the net - your firewall might be blocking it?

You should be able to transfer files either way - to the server or from the
server, as long as your firewall rules allow you to if you have the correct
permissions in place.

Since you've said you transfer files with WS-FTP, this looks like a WS_FTP (or
firewall) problem; you might also try a firewall/internet security group (e.g.
comp.security.firewalls) discussion group or a group for WS-FTP itself (can't
find any of these on my news-server).

It seens that it is not a Frontpage problem if you're using WS_FTP to publish
files - you've already said "it must be done with WS_FTP".

Which program is generating the message about "Failed Port" - your firewall,
frontpage or WS-FTP?

No, I don't think it is a FrontPage problem. The error is reported by WS_FTP
I have both FrontPage and WS-FTP on the Firewall as 'filtered' but have not
checked in WS_FTPs setup to use the firewall. Maybe if I check that, then
WS_FTP will ask Firewall's permission. Not sure how that works.

Otherwise, the only alternative is to take the filter off the Firewall for
the procedure.

I've been using WS-FTP on this particular web site for a few years, and have
published back to my FrontPage web, but never had to publish back to my
external drive yet (I have another website that uses the http protocol, and
it publishes right back with the original permission I give the firewall to
get out in the first place.

If you have other comments, they are welcome. Thanks for reminding me to
also check for a WS-FTP forum.
