Firewall won't open!

M

Marty Brice

I recently got Spyware in my system. It's clean now but my firewall won't go
back up. I try to enter in Control panel (or change settings of my ISP) but
I always get the message - "Windows cannot start the Windows
Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service"
Any ideas?

Hi

From Start>Run type:

services.msc

then scroll down the list to the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection
Sharing (ICS) Service, right click on it and then select Start. Does it
start then?

Hi,
make sure you're using an account with admin privileges then click start,
then run, type "services.msc" without the quotes, thehn make sure the
"Network Connections" service is set to manual startup, "Windows Management
Instrumentation," "Event Log," and "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection
Sharing(ICS)" services are set to automatic startup. Reboot your computer
and Windows Firewall should be on.

I forgot to mention you might need to go to Windows Firewall in the control
panel and turn it on.

My daughter brought her computer from college with exactly the same problem.
The service does not turn on in services.msc either. Claims it can not find a
file. I have Norton Internet Worm protection turned on in the mean time. I
have looked high and low for a problem and I have found nothing except that I
can not turn on Windows Firewall. Shows up in the event log as an error with
the service computer browser turning off after 5 minutes since the Firewall
does not start up.

Let me know if anyone comes up with anything worth while. I have found
nothing after searched for 6 hours.

Thanks,
MichaelM

Next time DO NOT INSTALL SPYWARE. This way, you wont have to deal with
the damage it causes that remains after you remove it.
