What firewall do you guys use with Vista? I have found that my Sygate
PFP, that ran under XP, doesn't want to run under Vista Ultimate.

Unless your needs are really unusual the Vista Firewall is excellent.

Start - Search - wf.msc Windows Firewall
Control Panel - Security - Windows Firewall

CMD - Run as Admin

NETSH FIREWALL RESET

Turns FIREWALL ON and reset to defaults

I use the built-in Vista firewall.

I used Win firewall during install and part of setup and then shifted to
Comodo. Either one gives me a stealth on Gibson GRC.

The included one is very good. I have a hardware firewall in my
wireless router, so I have the Vista firewall disabled.

Use Vista Firewall Control. Free as well.

If you take the few minutes to train the firewall for each program as
you use it for the first time, you will love the security this one gives
you, especially for the outgoing annoyances

I went from Sygate to Zone Alarm without any problems.

I just use the built in Vista firewall, plus my router provides hardware
firewall as well.
So far, have not had any problems.

Vista's built-in firewall is perfectly adequate for most people. While
it's not quite up to the ease-of-use standards of Kerio or ZoneAlarm, it
has been noticeably improved over WinXP's version.

There are two interfaces for Vistas built-in firewall:

1) A simplified one accessed through the Control Panel that is the only
one most people see. To further supplement this view, Sphinx's Vista
Firewall Control http://sphinx-soft.com/Vista/) is a piece of freeware
that makes the Vista Firewall much more easily manageable to the average
user.

2) And the more advanced "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security
(WF.msc), accessed via the Start Menu's Administrative Tools folder, for
the experienced user who wants more granular control.

Bruce, I just tried the free version of this and GRC detected ping reply,
so I took it off. Come to find out that WF is now echoing - it didn't
after install. I looked at Windows advanced settings, couldn't find any
mention of echo in the rules, so created what I thought would block echo
request, but it didn't do it. Do you know of any way to block that? (I've
been running Comodo which shows full stealth.)
