Firewall stops clearing outbox

I have had repeated problems with Outlook 2000 and now 2003 when my antivirus
software firewall is turned on, the outbox won't clear attachments over
100kb, even though the email is sent. This results in the inadvertent
resending of the email several times, much to the chagrin of receipients. Can
I do do something to keep the firewall on and clear emails & attachments from
the outbox ?
 
What type of Account are you using? Exchange, POP3, IMAP?

Made sure you've applied all the updates for your firewall solution?
