firewall slowdown

i automatically installed a firewall using the
microsoft.com website security recomendations. now my
computer is so slow its annoying. is there anything i
can do to adjust the firewall?

The firewall, by itself, shouldn't cause a noticeable slow-down of
your computer. Have you checked the Task Manager to see what specific
process(es) is suddenly consuming an unusual number of CPU cycles or
an inordinate amount of memory?
