Firewall in XP Home SP2

I

Information

We cannot change the settings for the firewall, they are managed by the
Policy Manager, but we are in XPHome SP2.

We were trying to update Security Shield 2008 from PCSecurityShield, when
the update would not install. Thier tech support had us uninstall the
current version, in an attempt to install the update. No success.

Our firewall settings are greyed out, and a bar across the top indicated
they are being managed for our security by Policy Manager.

We want to regain control of all security aspects of this machine.

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Hi
Using more than one Firewall is not recommended, it does not add security
and it destabilizes the TCP/IP stack.
Most 3rd party security add-ons disable Windows native firewall when
installed.
Security shield is a 3rd party service. If their tech, support can not help
you in using the product, then I would get rid of it, and restart Windows
Native security configuration. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283673

Get rid of the crappy third-party nonsense. There is NO REASON for it
to be installed.

Not every thrid-party firewall might be "crap!" Some thrid party
firewall can help monitor what applications are accessing out from
your PC since the SP2 one only blocks in-bound traffic.
