firewall doesn't install with sp2

I have 3 computers running sp2 with no problems.

I just took another computer, reformatted the hard drive, installed XP with
SP1 (from MSDN Universal) and then SP2.

There is no windows firewall, and it is not even in services.

If I try to open windows firewall I get a message
"Due to an unidentified problem, windows cannot display windows firewall
settings"

I uninstalled sp2 and reinstalled it - still no firewall.

I also did not have WMI in there and got that in by using add/remove
programs.

This problem is not coming up wiht any solutions via google.

I have tried on another list but thought I would ask here, too.

thanks

I had to add the firewall through Control Panel's "Add Windows Components"
after upgrading from Windows XP Home Edition sp2 (OEM)to XP Pro sp2. Have
you tried that?

Another curiosity for me occurred on a diiferent machine with XP Pro. I had
to disable the Windows XP firewall in order to be able to get Norton Firewall
2004 to enable it's "Intrusion Detection" feature after installing XP SP2.

Hope that helps!

I looked for that option. Don't see it anywhere. I just looked again - still
not there.

(fyi - I am a programmer who has been working with computers for 20 years -
I can't get over that I'm having this problem...)

I did a totally clean (reformat hard drive) install. I used the plain WinXP
Pro install this time rather than WinXPPro with SP1. I then installed SP2,
the partner pack and the CA EZ Trust software. These are all the steps I did
before. The firewall is okay now.

Is there a setup log (%windir%\setuplog.txt) that might suggest some
failure?

Dave - I just gave in and reformatted and started from scracth. So those
logs are gone. I wish I had been able to get the info on why this was
happening though for MS's purposes. Sorry.
