Firewall blocks internet access

With the XP firewall enabled Norton Antivirus is unable to
reach LiveUpdate, and my web pages are unable to be
downloaded. In other words, I guess XP firewall is
blocking them, because when I disable the firewall I can
retrieve my web pages and LiveUpdate with Norton works.
How do I work around this? Thanks. JJ

That's the purpose of a firewall. They stop network traffic from
entering and leaving the machine.

You need to click on the settings buttong on the same tab that you
turn on the firewall, and from there add all the ports that you want
to allow to have access to the internet. You'll need port 80 for web,
21 for FTP, etc..

You'll need to get a list of the ports that all the programs you want
to give internet access to use, and then include them as well.

I suggest you get Zone Alarm instead. (www.zonelabs.com - the free
version is fine). You can then tell it to allow Live Update access when
it asks. Live Update will be trying to use some port that the XP
firewall blocks, and configuring that is tedious. It might also well be
for all I know that the port Norton are using is the one that the BLAST
worm would then come pouring through if it were freely opened
