firewall appears to slowdown system

I recently installed a firewall onto some of our W2K PCs. Since then,
two of them are apparently slower.
Could it be that there is already a trojan horse or something similar
active running on the PC that permanently tries to break through the
firewall? How can I find that out?

Thanks,
Martin

The firewall itself is probably slowing down the servers. Processing power
is going to be consumed by the firewall application as it scans all the
traffic.
