firewall and chkdks problems

Hi

On my daughter's notebook (with XP Pro SP2) she had been running windows
live one care. However at one stage, her notebook started to require
extensive chkdsk runs every time she started it - these would take up to an
hour to complete and would generally return no errors.

I ran a command 'chkntfs /x c:' that stopped this chkdsk routing running -
but his also stopped her onecare from correctly loading. So I decided to
remove onecare and reinstall it according to the MS website.

This didn't fix them issue and she needed the notebook quickly - so i again
removed onecare and installed AVG - thinking that onecare was the issue.
Now AVG wont load properly - the resident shield and the email scanner have
errors.

Should I rebuild her notebook - or did is stuff up with running ''chkntfs /x
c:'?

Any advice appreciated.

Doug
