My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:
Since yesterday (after installing the latest XP updates), the Windows
firewall always shows up as inactive (red icon), although in Control
Panel the selection is ON. Any ideas what might cause this? ALSO - on
a different note- has anyone ever tried (and succeeded) creating a
directory called CON in XP?
Thanks.
Nor will you name one any number of other reserved names... No con, no prn,
no lpt1, etc... As for the first mine did not show those symptoms and so far
you're the first person I've noticed (I don't see everything so it could
just be that I haven't seen any other's reporting this) posting this problem
concerning recent updates. Have you run Spybot Search and Destroy lately and
given in to it's false positive having to do with the notification process?
That's just an idea but, well, it's all I can think of with the limited info
that I've got handy. I don't suppose there's errors in the event log and the
likes? Maybe a service that's gone South and isn't
starting/running/restarting on error?
