Firewall/advanced tab

M

MartyO

I don't seem to be able to access the xp fire wall. All
instructions say to pull up the network connections, under
the targeted connection click on the advanced tab to get to
the firewall.

My problem is when I bring up target or any network
connection there is no advanced tab!!! ....let alone a
firewall!!!!

Any ideas??

Hello
Open your Network Connections then right click your connection and see if
you have bridge this connection checked if you do uncheck it and then you
will be able to access the firewall.

What type of connection is it -- dial-up, LAN, other?

Some connections, such as the one created by AOL's software, don't
allow access to their properties.

This is from MS support try this it worked for me

From your description, you have indicated that the
Advanced tab under Local Area Connection Properties is
missing. If I have misunderstood, please feel free to let
me know.

Based on my experience, this issue may occur if some third
party programs such as McAfee modify some registry keys
and cause the issue.

Before we go further, please let me know whether you have
installed any McAfee programs before.

If you have, please perform the following steps to resolve
the problem:

First, I strongly recommend you back it up.

1. Click the Start menu, choose "Run", and then
type "regedit" in the open box (without the quotation
marks).
2. Click Ok.
3. Click the "Registry" menu, choose "Export Registry
File".
4. Select "Desktop" in the "Save in" list, type "tmpreg"
in the open box beside File Name, and then click "Save".

Then do as follows:

1. In the Registry Editor, locate the following registry
key in the left dialog box

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Netw
ork Connections

2. Right-click the "Network Connections" folder, and then
click Delete.
3. When you are prompted to confirm the value deletion,
click "Yes".
4. Quit Registry Editor, and test the issue again.
