Firefox tabbing problem: is it just me?

R

R. L.

Due to all the hype I finally installed Firefox (tried Moz
before but to slow too load and didn't like it). The install
was good and fine, like the interface, and seems to be much
better than my first try on Moz. I also like the feature that
you can browser without a mouse.

However, I am not sure why, everytime I open a new page by
typing an address in an address bar or by clicking on a link,
a new Firefox instance comes up instead of have the page
tabbed. Is there anything, any options I need to set to
enable tab browsing? I looked through all the options and
doesn't seem to see anything I could do with it; the help file
doesn't say either. In addition, I set it to default browser
and when I open my favorite, Firefox is not being used (but I
have not restarted my PC to see yet, will do so). I am
thinking that it must just be me, not the browser, any
pointers? Thanks.

Tabbed browsing: Tools --> Options... --> Advanced (on the left) -->
Browsing (on the right - expand it) --> tic "Select new tabs opened from
links. Also, you can open a link in a new tab with a wheel click. And, put
the new tab button on your toolbar to get a new blank tab.

Alt+Enter will open the url in the navigation box in a new tab and if you
hold ctrl while clicking a link it will open a tab as well. There are also
quite a few extensions that deal with enhancing tabs.

Thank you, this is the one.

<sign> to me this is so basic for a true tab browser; just
feel a bit strange that they didn't include it.

gripes on 0.9X

I had that problem with the Firefox 0.9 release candidate. With Firefox
0.0 proper, I simply haven't gotten anything browser-like on my screen no
matter what I've tried. Same with a couple of nightly builds.

I've gone back to 0.8, which works fine for me.

Same here, looking forward for 1.0; Am using GreenBrowser as
IE shell here and in fact quite happy with it just that it is
hard to navigate on the page with tab key (I needed to write
my own script to make my arrow to do double tab and triple
tabs myself). That feature on firefox makes a lot of sense to
me. In many IE shells and IE you can keyboard everything, but
then when come to browsing, tones of clicking :-( .

Wow, hard to believe that it could be *that* unstable... with
a bit of luck, not so scary here...

Thank you, this is the one.

besides Tab browsing preferences you can try the smaller
Single window extension

http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/install.php/Single_Window_1.0.xpi?
id=50&vid=53

or

the gigantic Tab browsing extensions

They will, at least the developers of Firefox have said so. Single window
mode must be the most requested feature.

regarding the 'new page' vs. new tab which I'm experiencing in Firefox v.09
I have discovered with the tab extensions v1.10 that if I right click on any
link I'll get a new tab but if I click on the underlined link I will get a
new page. This is just a new 'movement' to acquire (after a long time of
clicking the link) but it works.

My question is 'should tab extensions' be uninstalled if Tabbrowser
preferences is downloaded and installed? I couldn't find any reference to a
conflict.

[ If you are experiencing a bug where external links open both a new window
and, if TBP is configured to do so, a new tab in an existing window, you
have been bitten by Bug 246078. The fix for this bug can be found in the bug
page, or on John Haller's website. ]
Tabbrowser preferences is only compatible with Firefox v.09 the lite
version is for v.08

I don't have it and Firefox opens new sites as tabs.

I installed Tabbrowser myself and find it pretty handy. As an IE
user, I was finding the tabs difficult to deal with, and Tabbrowser
allowed me to disable that feature until I am more comfortable with FF
and can come back later to learn how to get deal with them! <g>

******************************

My question is, supposedly we can change the icons in the Personal
Toolbar Folder with Tabbrowser. I've gone and plugged in various
icons with it (via Properties in each context menu for each item on
the bar > TAB SETTINGS button > REFERRER AND FAVICON tab > ICON: box).
But nothing changes. The paths are all there but the icons remain the
same ones for the theme.

I have the IE theme (source URL: http://www.mozfly.devisland.net/).
I also disabled the favicons initially from the user.js file (as per
http://texturizer.net/firefox/tips.html#beh_icons). But I deleted
those lines from the user.js so this could work, thinking that that
might be why it wasn't. But no luck. I even recklessly deleted the
entire user.js figuring I could re-install the themes, etc., if
necessary, etc. But still nothing. The same IE icons showing up as
before I put the icon paths in.

Anyone run into this? and found a solution? It would be enormous help
to have individual icons displayed.

There's no page to display. It is a link to a download. You have to
mend the URL first; it looks like Xananews shares OE's inabillity to
post a URL without wrapping it.

I do have it, and it doesn't work.

uninsatalled it
