Firefox stealing focus from link from Outlook 2000

All my firefox settings direct it to open external links in the
background, but it absolutely steals focus from Outlook when I click on
a link in an email. This is so annoying - any ideas how to stop this?

After furious head scratching, (e-mail address removed) asked:
