I realize that Windows does not provide support for Firefox, this is obvious.
But my problem with the browser seems directly related to the Windows Update
that I installed this past weekend, so I'm posting my question here.
Also please note that I have no choice but to use Firefox. I cannot use IE
because I depend on Microsoft Outlook Web Access for my job, and Microsoft
OWA is not yet compatible with Vista/IE7. (I know, it's odd, but Firefox is
the only browser I know of at the moment that works on Vista and also runs
OWA.)
So now that this is established, here is my problem:
I'm using Vista home premium edition - been using it for several months
without trouble. Saturday night, I download several Windows updates, and
then Sunday when I opened up my Firefox browser, it was shaking.
Actually, it's not the whole window that shakes. The contour of the window
stays in place, and the menus too. Just the pages themselves bounce up and
down. They just shake. Also on Sunday when this problem occurred, I noticed
all my Firefox bookmarks were gone. And also, not every page starts to shake
right away. Sometimes they stay still for a while, then when I click on
something or navigate away, the shaking starts again.
I immediately scanned for spyware and viruses - no problems there. I
scoured the internet for solutions. I read about other Firefox/Vista users
that used to have the same problem with shakes and bounces - and their
problems were all found to be related either to customized toolbars or to
"themes/skins." I've used neither. I have default everything.
Nonetheless, I tried all the standard fixes. I tried, as some others
suggested, to add new bookmarks and see if that stopped the problem. It
didn't. I even uninstalled Firefox, downloaded the install file and
reinstalled. No change.
So what's the deal - did the Windows update this weekend intentionally
cripple my Firefox use? Any fixes?
