up hard drive. The drive does not contain the email application, which is
outlook express. where does windows xp keep outlook express messages and
address book items?

thanks.

E-mail is in C:\Documents and Settings - under each profile:

You need to set Folder Options to show hidden files.

Local Settings\Application Data\Indentities\(some number)\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\

Look for Inbox.dbx and Sent.dbx.

Address Book is also in the profile under Application Data\Microsoft\Address
Book

Here are easy ways to find where Outlook Express stores things:

Message Folders: click Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder

Address Book:

1. Click Tools | Address Book
2. Click Help | About Address Book

Here are the folders that Outlook Express uses on my computer, with
only one identity defined. Note that the messages are stored in that
identity under Local Settings, but the address book isn't. It's under
the Application Data folder.

Messages:

C:\Documents and Settings\Steve\Local Settings\
Application Data\Identities\
{2FB65C12-71E3-4C44-AAC1-7EF1A1F58F90}\
Microsoft\Outlook Express

Address Book:

C:\Documents and Settings\Steve\
Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book
