Finding control characters

I am working with a record in a table that was imported and the data is one
field filled with information. I need to parse out the data into 80
characters (80 characters = 1 line of information). Sometimes a control
character is accidently sent across. Is there a function where I can check
to see if each character is alpha-numeric?

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Not within my knowledge, however, you can easily write one.
