Does anyone know a way to recover files lost during a HD restore. I run

dod a HD restore. I know that thing are left on the HD even if it is wiped
cleaned.

it depends on what type of format you perform. I heard that if you perform
high-level formatting (few seconds process), the data will still be there,
while if you perform low-level formatting (took a long time), the data will
be gone forever although not thoroughly.

The files...if recoverable at all...
could only be recovered by very expensive lab work.

Best to just learn my your mistakes and move on...

be sure to always back up your important stuff to cd's or dvd's!!!

So happen I did have a most of my MP3's and Photos backed up. Just lost some
documents. They really should make a program to recover file for the average
person. It is just a pain to have to reinstall everything again.

Can't be done when a portion of a missing data file has been overwritten.
And, for an app that was installed, the registry entries that were
created by installing the app cannot be retrieved because the registry
has been overwritten.

So, we're working on reversing file destruction, but first we'll need
to reverse time. ;-)

They do, it's called "backing up your files".

Recovering files is generally far more complex. The programs provide
a lot of assistance these days but it's simply not something that can
be made real easy.

It used to be *FAR* worse--in ages past I recovered a lot of files
with nothing beyond a sector editor. Everything was manual and typing
the wrong thing could wipe out the floppy. (This was back when
personal computers didn't even have hard disks.)

I can't imagine file recovery ever being easier than a reinstall.
