find and replace two spaces with one space

How do I replace two spaces between sentences to one space between sentences
in a large document?

Enable wildcards. Search for [ ]{2,} and replace with a single space.

Use a wildcard replace of
(.)([ ]){2,}
with
\1\2

or to replace any instance of more than one space

([ ]){2,}
with
\1

Jezebel and Graham have told you how to use wildcards to replace two or more
spaces with a single space. You can also type two spaces in the "Find what"
box of Find and Replace and a single space in the "Replace with" box and
just keep running Replace All until no more replacements are made.

Or if you don't have tabs in the document, you can replace all whitespace
^w with a single space in one go.
