find and replace text in footers across section breaks

I cannot get Word to find and replace text in footers across section breaks.
Is this possible? If so, how? I see the checkbox for find across section
breaks, but it doesn't appear to have an effect across section breaks.

My apologies for any possible cross-posts, but it's hard to know which group
this might belong in...
