Find a folder

N

Neal

I've been working in Outlook for many years but have never come across this.

You can't search for a folder. Can you? Well I can't. I made a folder
called test, tried everything I could to find it, but it never turned up in
any search I did. I have a million ways to find an email, but not a folder.

This came up when a friend of mine accidentall dragged and dropped a folder
to an unknown location. Easy I said, I'll just do a search... Red face.
This particular mailbox has more folders than I've ever seen (about 1000 I'd
say) so I really need a way to find them.

Please embaras me and show me just how easy it is and what I was missing.
Can't do it in O2007 nor O2007, nor does Desktop Search (it is a mailbox not
a .pst).

Thanks, Neal

As far as I can tell, it's not possible. I suspect it's because folders in
Outlook aren't real objects; they're only keys contained in each record that
allow for the logical collection of data records into groupings. Outlook
presents these collections to you in a graphical fashion, making them look
like folders. If you're familiar with indexed files, the folder name is
just an index, and probably a secondary one as well.

I believe google desktop search will identify the folder path - outlook will
show the folder name in the folder field but not the folder path. Other 3rd
party search tools can also show the path.
