Final Problem: NTLDR is missing

My problem started out with an error stating I had a
problem with Norton Antivirus. My son was online when
this error message popped-up. Afterwards I was unable to
access my "C" drive. I got the error message it
was "unavailable."

Long story, I called Gateway Tech Support and did
everything they said to no avail. The last thing was to
us the Operating Disk and correct the problem. After the
system tried to correct the problem it stopped saying it
could not "copy NTLDR" for the repair. Now on boot-up I
get a blank screen with the notation " NTLDR is missing"
and that is a far as it goes. I have tried to contact
Microsoft Tech Support but am unable to get through. I
have information on the computer I would like to not loose
since I would have to install EVERYTHING again, plus some
information was not backed-up so it will be lost.

Any idea's, thoughts or help will be greatly appreciated.
I have enough working knowledge of computers to get me in
trouble.

Thanks.

This is a silly question: is your "Operating Disk" a diskette? If
so, did you remove it before rebooting? If not, remove it and try
again.

I answer tons of service calls about this problem. I pop out the
diskette errantly left in the a drive, reboot, and my "miracle" work
is done.
