Final Fantasy XI ffxi

Im at my wits end with this one. POL tech support gave up on me so maybe
someone here can help.
First, here's the trouble: I played for 9 months with no problems but after
and an update I can not log onto the lobby server for the game but I can get
onto POL and even see which of my friends are online and recieve messages
from them. I get an error code 3100 unable to log onto lobby server. POL
tech support says that that means that a firewall or antivirus is blocking
me. I can play the game using my PS2 using the same internet connection.
(No, I do not have router installed at the moment) I have turned off my
firewall, antivirus, antispyware all without any results. I've even searched
my computer for some pesky program that I may have forgotten about but I dont
see any ohters. POL Tech support pinged my computer and showed no problems.
POL has given up on me but I hope that some genius out there sees what I am
missing and can help. Its making me crazy to not be able to play my favorite
game but still be paying for it. Someone help me!!!!

Hi Alison,

Try your old trusty dial-up modem to see if you're able to
log into the lobby server for the game. This will help determine
if any part of your current broadband configuration is at fault.

i dont have a land line for a dial up modem. The game will connect with my
PS2 so I dont think my connection is the problem. It's something about my
computer that the game hates.

Hi Alison,

No land line... perhaps your VOIP setup is at fault?
Did you start having these issues after updating it?

I dont know what you mean by VOIP but yes, the program run fine until a game
update was done for Final Fantasy Online. I hope I understood you question.

Hi Alison,

VOIP = Voice Over IP (Internet Telephone System) which I assumed
you used to keep in contact with people instead of using a land line.

Obviously something went wrong with the game update. Did you try
reinstalling the game with POL tech support? If not, go ahead and give
it a try, if yes, please list what other troubleshooting steps they've tried.

ummm...i couldn't figure out where to post this so I'll put it ina reply to
you..

I am not sure what error code i am getting...
But Final Fantasy XI is making my computer restart!
I have a fresh windows install
Everything was working perfectly...
I had close to 2 weeks of uptime with my system...perfect, no problems,
everything smooth...voltages, temperatures, etc all acceptable and stable.
Then this morning, i decided to begin playing Final Fantasy XI on my pc...i
haven't played since i reinstalled it after my last format n junk.
Anyways...i was in game when suddenly, my screen went black and my computer
was restarting.
I've not had this issue with other games (I also play F.E.A.R. Half Life 2
and MEchwarrior 4: Mercenaries
Any idea what could be causing this?
all my drivers are up do date.
My system is home built with an Athlon XP 3200+ at 2.2ghz
512 mb of RAM at 3-3-38 timings
Nvidia Gforce FX5500 256mb graphics card
i forget what kind of MoBo i have

Hi The Gunslinger,

Your system is most likely restarting as a result of a STOP error.

To stop this behavior go to Control Panel / System / Advanced /
Click the Startup and Recovery Settings button / Uncheck the box
labelled "Automatically restart" under the System Failure section.

To analyze the error, try the steps in: http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm

If the error indicates a file name that begins with ati, or nv (nVidia)
the most likely solution would be to install the latest drivers using
the instructions at: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Video.html#drivers

I dont use VOIP or a land line. I use a mobile phone. I still have the
same problem. POL says they cant help me. They tell me that I have a
firewall or a antivirus program blocking the FFXI server. I have turned off
my firewall and gone so far as to unistall my antivirus but it didnt work. I
reinstalled the game and that made no change. They "pinged" my computer and
got through without trouble. I'm out of ideas and ready to have windows
reinstalled and start from scratch. All I can think of that I have not
addressed is whether or not I have files left over from Norton Antivirus (a
program I no longer use) that did not uninstall and are causing problems. Is
this possable? How would I remove them?
