Files went missing/have they deleted themselves?!

About 500+ files have gone missing from my E: Drive on my PC. I haven't
altered them in any way whatsoever (or moved them). I've run searches and
system restores, but they haven't re-appeared.

Any suggestions on what may have happened?
 
Has anyone ever resolved your issue? I seem to be having the same problm.

It might just be a pretty rare problem...
