Files show up twice in search results

I've couldn't find an answer to my question else where so I'll ask it here in
hope for an answer.

When doing a search for files , results are duplicated only if the file is
located in "My Documents" folder. The type of file doesn't seem to matter
ie...mp3, txt, doc

I've inspected each duplicate to see if maybe there is a difference, but
they are the same file. (name, size, , location, even date modified)

It shows a hit on the 'my documents', and on the 'shared documents'. If you
did not share them, one would be found.

See if stopping and restarting the Indexing Service helps.

1. Click Start, Run and type Services.msc
2. Right-click Indexing Service, and then click Stop.
3. Right-click Indexing Service, and then click Start.

Update:

I cleared my share folder and the same results appear.

My Indexing Service was off by default. I started it, ran another
search...same results. I stopped it, ran another search...same results.

Right-click "My Documents" and click Properties.
In the "General" tab, click "Advanced"
Uncheck, "For fast searching, allow Indexing Service to index this folder"
Click OK.

Reboot and see if that works.

My Documents isn't a real folder of files: It just looks like that way. My
Documents is sort of a "window" or shortcut if you will, to the actual path
for the files, which is the "other" find you're getting. Each account also
has its own My Documents folder, different from the others. It's a system
folder and a great convenience once you get used to using it properly.

Ramesh, isn't he just seeing the My Documents path, AND the C:\documents and
settings\username\My Documents (whatever the right path is)? He can either
look in My Documents, or drill down to his My Documents folder under his
username and see the same thing.

Right?

Hi Pop,

You're correct. However, the user should not see duplicate entries when doing a search..right?
