Is there any way to recover files lost after reinstalling win XP? For
example, I lost all of my emails in outlook express.

If you formatted the drive and clean-installed XP, it is doubtful whether
you can retrieve the files with consumer-level data recovery software. You
certainly can try; just do nothing further with the drive and don't install
the recovery software on that computer. Instead, install it on a different
machine and make a recovery boot disk.

If the recovery software doesn't work, the only other thing you can try is
sending the drive to a professional data recovery company. I like Drive
Savers, but there are others. Professional data recovery starts at around
$500USD and goes up from there. Only you can determine the value of your
emails and other data.

Look in your

C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{UNIQUE IDENTIFIER NUMBER}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

folder and see how many Inbox*.dbx files you have. Just Inbox.dbx or
Inbox.dbx and Inbox(#).dbx where '#' is a number

DBXpress can find messages that have not actually been overwritten, even if
the drive has been formatted (www.oehelp.com). Run it in Disk mode, not
Recover mode, which will just look in DBX files.
