I have backed up my old data and files on my old computer
with windows 98. I used a nero burner program to burn
them to a CD. Now, I am on new Dell computer with
Windows XP and it will not display or read any of the
files from the CD that I burned. If I go to another
Win98 computer it reads/copies/displays etc. the files
fine. What am I doing wrong with the XP? I was told
that XP should read any older version files. It won't
even read a .doc, .ico. gif. When I double click on the
file I get a message "No image available"
Any help would be much appreciated.

the issue you are experiancing is with the format of your cd. the session
on your cdr disc is still open so that more data can be added. this is ok
if the next machine that you use it in also has nero, but it also means that
it is in a format that is not universally reconized. the simple answer is
to burn your cd again but this time be sure to uncheck the box that says
'allow files to be added later (multisession disc)'.
