Files exist, but the folders that contain them do not show up

A subfolder in my documents only shows a portion of the folders that should
be in there from Windows Explorer. Displaying hidden files and folders has
no effect.

When I search for a specific file in one of the missing folders, the search
results show the file to be in the missing folder. I can select the file
from the search results and open it. A dir from the cmd prompt does not show
the missing folders, either.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Look again where you set to show hidden files; there
are at least two places you must tick, and if they look
like system files, three. YOu may have missed
something. Explorer; Tools Folder Options; View tab.

That indicates you may not be looking where you think
you are. Be careful to distinguish a file from a
shortcut properly. Do you have Show Extensions turned
on? If not, do so.

This morning the user reported she found the files in a subfolder late
Friday. She thinks she remembers cancelling an accidental move (clicked on
the wrong subfolder) earlier in the week. Regardless she had already moved
them back before I got a chance to look at it.

Seeing as how she found them in a subfolder, I obviously was not paying
enough attention to the path returned by the search results. Sorry to waste
your time on this. After 20+ years of micro support I should know better
than to let that slip by.

Thanks
