Files don't show in 'remote web site' view

The images on the server are not shown in the Images directory in the 'Remote
web site' interface. However, they ARE there, because when the site is
browsed the images appear in each page. If I upload a new image, the
interface indicates that the upload is complete, but alas, it too does not
show. The image directory 'appears' empty.
Help!

Just a guess as this comes up many times per week on this
newsgroup. You have stated the probelm a bit different
than most.

Did you import your images into your Front Page disk-
based site prior to linking to them? If not, your server
based site could be pointing to your hard disk and when
your view them on your computer, it finds them on your
hard drive.

You can check this out by going to a problem page and
switching to HTML view. Even if you don't understand a
word of HTML (I don't), look for a section of the code
where it refers to the image file. If you have your hard
drive included in the path, this is your culprit.

Thanks Rick for the Reply. I'm not sure I understand ALL of your message,
but the Import comment got me thinking...

We all know that there is a difference between a regular web, and a
FrontPage web. The site in question was not a 'FrontPage' web initially, but
upon connecting to it for the first time, the pop up message allows you to
make it into an official FrontPage web.

I then downloaded the entire site to my local machine, made some edits,
uploaded the changes. The next time I connected to the site, the Images
directory appears to be empty. But -it's not really empty, its just that the
files aren't shown.
If I go to the web site in the browser and type in
http://www.website.com/images/icon.gif, the image shows up.

ALSO: The publishing interface acts flakey when trying to upload to an
'invisible' file list and often crashes.

Any other insight is much appreciated!

Well, as you said the images display in the web pages, and the paths all point back to your images
folder.

So, what I would do is:
1. Close FrontPage and search for files named *.web and delete all found.
2. Delete the temporary internet and history files.
3. Since you're on a server with extensions, open FrontPage and click File > Open web.. ( open
site if FP 2003 ) enter http://r4s.sl-tech.net/ enter the user name and password when prompted, and
then recalculate hyperlinks and then open the images folder and see if they are visible.

If not, post back and we'll go through some steps involving removing entries from the system
registry.

hth.

Steve-
Good suggestions. Never heard of .web files, but will follow your
instructions. Thanks again...

When you 'downloaded' this web, that you didn't originally create, to your local machine - how did you do that? Did you Import it or Publish it down?
