Files disapearing

All,

We are experiencing some extremely odd behaviour on our systems. When users
double click a file, rename a file, rename a folder (or any such combination)
some files just disapear with no error messages or warnings. The files are on
a shared drive that is located on a Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise edition server
with Sophos Anti-Virus, all of which are fully patched and updated. any ideas
would be most welcome as I am going mad over this one!!

Many Thanks

Rich

Well, if it's not a malcontent amongst your group, then it's very likely
going to be malware. Time to get out the AV and spyware detectors,
update them and run them. Then come back with the results and go from
there.

Hi Twayne,

This was the first thing we tried and all scans came up clean. Our sophos
anti-virus is updtaed several tines a day using the enterprise console. I
really am a complete loss at to why this should be happening, unless it is
related to the anti-virus somehow? maybe when it is updating?

As already mentioned, this was my first thought and ALL machines have been
scanned and are clean.

I did get a bit more info from one of the users today, it seems that it is
mainly excel documents and they get the follwoing error 'Excel found
unreadable content in 'file name'. Do you want to recover the contents of
this workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes.'
