files and settings transfer

Is it possible to use the transfer files and settings wizard to transfer
files and settings across a wireless network to say my laptop?

What I want to do Is transfer my files and settings from my pc to laptop
(Just to be stored) then run a complete format/clean install on my PC and
then transfer the files and settings back to the PC. If this is at all
possible can somebody please explain

Why not simply network the 2 computers through a hub/switch/router or even
directly by a cross over cable?
