I am trying to transfer files and settings from an old Dell laptop running
WinXP to a new Dell laptop running WinXP Professional. The two computers are
wireless networked. I started with the new laptop and opened the wizard from
"System Tools", and clicked on next, then clicked on new computer, and
clicked on next. This screen, "Do you have a Windows XP CD", has both the " I
want to create a wizard disk", and the "I will use the wizard from the
Windows XP CD", grayed out. I tried this on three computers on the network to
see what would happen, and all gave the same results. Any help sure would be
appreciated.
Thanks

If all you want to do is use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to get
your files/settings from one computer to another...

I personally would not bother with a Wizard disk creation if both machines
are Windows XP.

Steps 1-8 of "Step-by-Step: Running the FST Wizard on your old PC"
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_fstw.asp

You can then copy the exported files to something like an external USB drive
or shared network loaction for import on the other machine.

That should do it. That way you run from the same place (the Windows XP
Installation CD) on both computers.

I managed to get the first part done ok. The files and settings were copied
to a folder I created in the old computer. In the second phase I inserted The
XP disk into th new laptop. under "Do You Have A Windows XP CD?", the "I will
use the wizard from the Windows XP CD" is grayed out. How do I proceed?
Thanks

Shenan,
I think I figured it out. I just dropped down to the to the next option: I
don't need the Wizard Disk. Following that option, I went to the folder in my
old laptop, it seems to be working. It is copying files. "Transfer in
progress".
Thanks again.
