File views in Outlook Express and Thunderbird

When I need to attach a file in OE and open the appropriate folder, the
view is always thumbnail or icon view. Is there a setting somewhere that
will make the folders always open in detail view, which I always use?

Open my computer, click on details.
Now open tools -> folder options -> view tab.
Click on 'apply to all folders' button.
Close explorer.

This should make all folders display in detail view.
