Had help with my problem but can someone enlighten mt on the difference
between "window_placement.reg" and "window_placement.vbs"
please?
Thanks

The .reg entry is a file that would replace something in your registry. The
..vbs is a visual basic script. I would not click on either one of them
unless you are sure what they're doing.

..reg.......windows registry file that if you need to impelement would right
click and "add to registry"
..vbs...visual basic script file that when clicked activates a script...ie
places the .reg file into the registry

hope they came from a safe place
peter

They both do the same thing.

Both window_placement.reg and window_placement.vbs
delete the Window_Placement value from
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\
in the Registry.

The Window_Placement value will get recreated.

Window_Placement is basically: Remember last window size and placement on
the screen.

Window_Placement can get corrupted and cause problems, deletting the value
fixes this problem.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Hi Wes...So can I take it that by selecting either one of the window
placements (or both if necessary) will then open my screen to full size
whether in OE or EI etc ?...This was my reason for requesting advice on
window placents because Kellys Korner give that as a rectification but
didn't state which one. Hope I made myself clear....Telboy1938

Hi telboy1938,

Here is my standard post on IE window size.

Internet Explorer remembers the last window that was opened and will open
that same way the next time that it's opened.

This will have to be redone occasionally.

Open *one* instance of IE | Use the cursor (not the
maximize button) to drag the window to the desired
size | Click the Close [X] while holding down the
Ctrl key.
-----

Also if one instance of IE opens correctly but when opening a new window
that window opens small. Use the cursor (not the maximize button) to drag
the window to the desired size. Click the Close [X] while holding down the
Ctrl key. Then open a new window again.
----

And sometimes you just have to do this.

Close all instances of Internet Explorer.

Paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...

javascript:window.open(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight)

Then use your cursor (not the maximize button) to drag each window to full
screen and left click the Close [X] while holding down the Ctrl key.
----

Look here...
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Read the instructions at the top
60. Right hand side
Correct IE Window Placement (Reg or VBS)

(Reg or VBS) means that there is are both kinds of files.

window_placement.reg or window_placement.vbs

Get whichever one.

Either one will erase the current window position and size so your new
window resize will be remembered when you close the window. It won't
cause the IE, nor the OE window to open maximized.

There is software available that does that:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ie+maximized+software&btnG=Search

Here's one way to change Desktop and QL links to always open maximized.
You would still need to resize OE and browser links with some of the
re-sizing tips you'll find:

Create a few shortcuts to your browser on your Desktop, or Quick Launch
bar, then edit the shortcuts.

1. Change the "Target:" to:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" http://lpga.com

(as an example site.)

2. After adding the internet address, change the "Run:" pane to "Maximized".

That will make those _shortcuts_ open IE maximized. You'll still have
to use the other ideas suggested in this thread to get links in emails,
and links on web sites to open new windows nearly maximized.

You can do the same things with OE windows. But opening OE through a
link will still cause it to open in the stored size.

Hope this helps,
