File Types Advanced Edit Action Accelerator Key

I have found what I consider to be a bug in Windows XP. It would affect
almost no one, but still a bug.

As an example, assume that Microsoft Word is already installed and a person
installs the Microsoft Word Viewer also.
1) You go to the Folder Options dialog for example by in Classic Menus mode
by Start->Settings->Control Panel->Folder Options.
2) Select the File Types tab.
3) Select an extension. So for the example, the person selects the .DOC
extension.
4) Select Advanced and the Edit File Type dialog box opens.
5) Select New button and the New Action dialog box opens.
6) At action:, type &View so with the intent that the keyboard shortcut for
this is Alt+V. (See the ? help for this box.) At application used to peform
action:, type the path the wordview.exe and its paramater. So for example,
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WORDVIEW.EXE" "%1".
7) Select OK to close the New Action dialog box.
8) Select OK to close the Edit File Type Box.
9) Select OK to close the Folder Options Box.
10) In Windows Explorer (or anywhere else), right click a .DOC file. The
context menu will show &View instead of View (where the V is underlined).

I have worked around this problem by editing the registry afterwards, but
this should not be necessary. Hardly anyone adds their own actions so this
affects very few people.

Does anyone see something wrong with the sequence? Does this happen to
others? If this has been discussed before, can some one suggest search
terms other than the terms in my Subject: line that I could use to find
this?

Hi Paul,

I can reproduce the problem here. But when you edit the new action once, it gets fixed automatically. Thus, altering the registry is not required.

And if that does not help, use this workaround:

When you create a new action add a blank space at the end.

Instead of "&View", you type "&View " (without quotes)

This circumvents the problem.
