Who is the manufacturer of the application you are utilizing to write to
DVD?

A successful write will clear the fifo buffer. I suppose the real question
is: Why can't the hardware write to the DVD?
If you are trying to write with XP's built in driver, the answer is simple:
XP does not support writing to a DVD device.
If you aren't doing that, post back with the name of the software that you
are using.

I had a problem with "power calibration error" on my ASUS DVD burner but
only when using DL media and only occasionally. Updating the firmware on
the drive fixed the problem nicely. It might be worth a try to visit your
drive maker's website to see if you have the latest firmware.
