I have 2 computers connected with a Linksys wireless
router. The Notebook can access the internet with no
problems.

When I first got the notebook I connected to the router
using the CAT5 and had no trouble mapping drives or
sharing. Since using the wireless connection no sharing
of any kind, nor printer sharing.

When I run the network wizard it creates a bridge for the
connections but to no avail. I've deleted these bridges
and tried to start over, each time XP creates a new
bridge and now I'm up to Bridge 17!.

Why and I not getting to connect to the other
computer/network printer and WHY does XP not reset the
bridge numbers..

The network will no longer work with the Ethernet cable
either.

I've installed sharing on friends computers and had no
issues whatsoever.

We have three computers all with Windows XP (Two w/Pro and
one w/Home). All three computers can access the internet
independently of the Linksys WRT54G Router. One desktop is
hardwired to the router and two systems (one desktop and
one laptop) are conneted to the router via Linksys wireless
devices. We are experiencing the same problems as
expressed by JS as we try to setup file and printer
sharing. The Home-Office network wizard has been unable to
setup the network so as to identify the other computer's
files or printers (There are two printers). In the process
of setup the wizard has managed to destroy the setup of the
wireless devices on more than one occasion, such that they
must be reset up. Going to CMD and doing an
ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew has been necessary
more than once.

We tried everything we can think of to achive a connection
over the last several days, all to no avail. FRUSTRATED!!!

HELP!!! What is the answer?

Further to this post.

I took the HOME XP on the notebook tonight and upgraded
to XP Pro thinking that a total redo might fix this. NOT.

I too have done ipconfig/release /renew to this
countless time even prior to tonight and still the same
thing. I've changed workgroup names, machine names,
bridged, unbridged.... ALL the built in firewalls are
OFF. All the settings are set to obtain automatically.
And when you enter windows explorer and try to view the
network you get a long delay.. Then it shows the
workgroup name(in the case SHARK) and then clicking on
the group gets a longer delay saying you don't have
permission to view or access.

Is there a TOTAL reset button in here!

Going on 17 hours now with no luck

what happens if you unbridge, then go in and DISABLE the wired
connection in the network window (start, run, ncpa.cpl [ok] then right
click the connection and then click disable) before you run the
wizard?

Barb, if I understood your instructions correctly, I
followed them this morning but to no avail. I'm a bit
confused, however, because the wizard tells us that we MUST
be connected to the Net as we run the wizard. What ever is
going on with the wizard, it is disconnecting the browser
from the Net, but the computers maintain a "connection"
with the router. Getting it all back up and functioning
again is more like alchemy than trouble shooting.

I would hope that you would continue to think about the
issue, and offer suggestions. I'll try most anything at
this stage.

Thanks for your suggestion,
Woolly

if you have gotten past the network bridge issue, try to set up file
sharing manually.

You can find a lot of good information on Steve Winograd's site
