2 xp pro machines using simple file sharing.
Dlink router/adsl/wireless modem
Multiple users all administrators and No passwords used.

This has been working fine for ages, sharing a couple of folders on
each machine.
All of a sudden I am geeting unable to connect to this machine, you
dont have permission, Cant find machine, etc, Enter password, etc.. I
can still play network games so it looks like just the file sharing
part is breaking down ?

Last things that happened.
Installed and removed Crashday (this added securom service which I
disabled)
My friend connected with his xp pro laptop using Lan cable and copied
files successfully
Copped a trojan vires, with U.exe in root of C drive

Thanks for you help

Just an update... I ran netmeeting for the first time and managed to
begin a file transfer from one pc to another. All of a sudden I go to
Network places and find that I can now see my drives from the upstairs
computer. I shut down netmeeting since the transfer was taking forever
and then managed to copy the files over without a problem ???
What is going on !!!

Ok sorry to answer my own posts but I GOT IT WORKING !!!! This will
probably help me some time in the future...

1. gpedit.msc ensure that network access is allowed for everyone and
guest. Check that Deny to Network does not include guest or everyone.
Enable guest account

2. Tools-folder options-view-untick simple file sharing

3. Right click drive-Properties-sharing enable sharing for everyone to
have read access

4. Right click drive-Properties-Security-Pick Everyone and tick Read
Only

5.Tools-Map Network drive to free letter -\\10.1.1.4\Downloads ..etc

6. edit hosts file in c:\windows\drivers\etc\ and add 10.1.1.4 PCname
and 2nd PC... I assume this will now let me Re-map using PC name
instead of IP ?

This will fail if my router decides not to allocate the same IP address
to the same computer.
